John Paul Jones Arena – Acoustical Baffles | Charlottesville, Virginia

Chicago Flyhouse delivers acoustic solutions for U of VA's new state of the art arena.

The state-of-the-art John Paul Jones Arena at the University Of Virginia in Charlottesville opened in 2006. The $20 million, 16,000 seat arena is the first facility in the country built by a public university almost entirely from private funds, and will also hold the title of the largest arena in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Working in conjunction with our acoustic solutions partner CMA (Creative Materials For Acoustics, Inc.), Flyhouse submitted an acoustic baffling design for the new arena which included the integration of acoustic paneling to accommodate the existing sprinkler system and myriad other pre-existing obstructions. All designs were required to meet local and University codes and were subject to approval by the arena Owner, General Contractor, Fire Inspector and all applicable project leaders.

The approved designs were installed by  Flyhouse. Originally given a six-eight week installation schedule, Flyhouse safely and successfully completed the job in under four weeks, allowing the project’s design and construction company, Barton Malow, more time to address issues with other facets of the arena’s completion.
