Amsoil Arena – Acoustical Baffles | Duluth, Minnesota
The Amsoil Arena replaced the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center Arena in 2010 and is home to the men’s and women’s Minnesota – Duluth Bulldog hockey teams. Before the first puck dropped, Mortenson Construction, the primary general contractor, needed a team with the experience acoustical baffle installation experience.
Flyhouse was contracted to install acoustical baffles – consisting of 28,000 square feet of horizontal and 8,800 square feet of vertical material.
The horizontal baffles were hung tight to the roof structure requiring Flyhouse to design custom brackets to keep the baffles from sagging. The vertical baffles hung near the perimeter of the ceiling so the bottom of the verticals matched up with the drop-down halo ceiling existing over the upper bowl of the arena seating.
The slight pitch of the ceiling did make the baffle design a challenge especially in keeping all the verticals level with the truss and ceiling. However, the challenge was accepted and completed with no major issues.
